Growing fast just like the petal’s leaves
Last fall I swear I was young
And now it’s the end of spring.
My feet run before I think, “walk”
Just last fall when I swore I was young
I was doubled over drawing pictures with chalk.

And when the leaves go from reds to brown
And your friends you swore looked younger
Are older and don’t have the time around.
The only freedom it seems these days is in the car
Driving faster, it doesn’t matter where you are.

Most people these days are driving to their jobs
While I sit at home and still hang with my mom
We watch movies and go through old picture albums
And I swore I was once that young
But I can’t seem to find that trait anymore.

Sure I still swing out in my backyard
Go to the swimming pool and play with cards
I like living young but not growing up
But sometimes you just have to give it up.

Summer is here and I’m where I want to be
I like who I am and continue to see
The image of my father and the eyes of my mother
And silly like my brother and man.
I am taking life slow, wherever I go
All the while holding God’s hand.

Yes life can be scary and it is never easy
But just look at where I am and how I can
And back last fall when I swear I was younger
And now it’s nearly the end of spring.
I can finally lift my hands up and exclaim
Please,“Bring on the rain.”
